No issues with our overnight freebie… and no check-out time
to worry about! This meant that today we
could drive as far as the gas in the tank allowed without worrying about
staying above the quarter mark as we will pay for a hook-up tonight.
Lake Superior on a calm day |
I checked out the big lake again this morning. The wind has done a full 180° since
yesterday so the once wavey Lake Superior now looks like a mill pond (right)
whereas the harbour where we spotted the beaver last night is looking very
choppy in the wind.
Pair of Great Scaup ducks (above, my pic, below - not mine but one that you can see more clearly!) |
I can’t seem to shake yesterday’s migraine. No amount of sleep, pharmaceuticals or fresh
air seem to budge it. So, Simon was
designated driver for the day.
Our site at Chetek river camp ground |
There
were two PA’s on our course south and luckily we managed to make the furthest
one – Chetek river camp ground - with some gas to spare. It was drizzling during the journey of just
under two hours which was a shame as the camp ground had numerous facilities,
not all in use yet, but including crazy golf!

The Chetek river |
We hooked up right by the river for the bargain price of $18.50 and used
the internet connection to do some much-needed planning for our forthcoming
trip to Chicago. After our gangster
initiation in Moose Jaw we are looking forward to seeing Al Capone’s favourite
City and managed to bag a cut-price Chicago crime tour for Saturday
afternoon. It sounds great but sadly it
also means that Simon will be bringing out his terrible gangster voice
impersonation again!
