Wednesday 5th December - Day in the Hunuas
Thank goodness we didn’t have to get up too early to go to the Hunuas. Becks was keen to come out with my volunteer group and take a look at the pest control project. We were allocated a route which was partly on a main public track but also gave us the chance to go ‘off track’ for a bit.
It got quite steep and slippery and suddenly I heard an ‘ouch’ behind me as Becks skidded down a slope and ended up in a muddy puddle at the bottom, hitting one of her arms against a branch on the way down. I was terrified she’d really done herself an injury, but she was a trooper and picked herself up straight away to carry on. We made it out for tea and Biccies but Becks definitely got to experience how tough it can be in the bush and how much manpower is needed in the fight against the pests!

While we were in the area I took becks to have a look at
Hunua Falls (above) before heading home.
It was Beck’s last night. We went for cocktails in a pub and
discussed where to go for dinner, opting for the Little Thai Restaurant, which
was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night.
The food was good, if a little on the spicy side for me. What better way to finish off Beck’s holiday
than heading home to complete the evening with a game of five crowns!?
Thursday 6th December - Becks' last day
Becks and I had a lie-in, before assessing the damage to her
arm and back… ouch! (right).
We then had a very easy day so that Becks could relax and pack for her long homeward-bound journey.

I delivered Becks to the airport for 630pm and we said a sad
farewell. Why do the good times always go so fast?! I told her she would definitely have to
return so that we could fully explore more of the North island next time.
