Rest of January!

Let’s speed this up people… Apart from the most important events I will just be posting a few comments and leaving the photos to tell the story so I can get this blog caught up!

I’ll just mention that I felt that the New Year was a good time to start putting myself out there for some more hands-on conservation PAID work by sending out my CV and starting to apply for jobs.  A couple of interviews came along… watch this space!

It was still the height of summer, with barely any rain to speak of. The noise of the cicadas in the Hunuas was deafening!

A momentous result!
An important event as I said I’d mention…. The Newdey’s beat the Kellases at darts cricket and Nick was here to join in.
Nick being competitive for a change!

Saturday 19th January – Kumeu Classic Car and Hot rod Festival

There’s no doubt about it, Kiwis love their cars!  We were picked up by Huihana and Steve in Colin the Dodge to reach Kumeu showground around 8am.  An initially cloudy day turned into a scorcher.

These guys on their motorised picnic bench with chilly bin and parasol had the right idea:

The event was a massive swap meet for car lovers and there were thousands of American classic cars to ogle and for their obsessed owners to compare notes over.

We walked miles, had a BBQ and tons of snacks by the car and even bought a new cool pair of hot rod converse trainers for me!

Thursday 10th to Monday 14th January – the return to normality

Back to more routine things, like work for me, games at the Kellas’s on Friday. Their cat, Manu, is very helpful:

.... but with the weather still being lovely I persuaded Simon to join me to climb Mount William on Saturday.  What a view!

Monday was a shock for both of us.  Si had to go back to work, and I was back at bird rescue where I got to bathe some lovely terns:
