The rain predicted in the morning wasn’t as heavy as they’d
threatened but we took it easy and stayed in playing cards anyway. We are
getting Becks hooked on five-crowns!
I look happy with my selection of wines! |
Around lunchtime we decided it would be a good idea to
follow up a recommendation from the Hurrells and pay a visit to Mercury bay
winery as there was no sign of the rain easing. Despite telling the staff we were only there for a wine tasting, in no
time at all we had decided to order some olives and a cheese board. This was
completely the correct decision! The
non-drivers enjoyed a four-glass wine tasting assortment of our choice whilst
the driver had to settle for just two small taster glasses. It was all
delicious!
Our tasty looking table.... |
We explored more of the area in the car whilst dodging
further rain showers and did some shopping in Whitianga. We’d driven passed a cool looking bar, the
Coroglen Tavern, and it seemed a shame not to venture inside. What a bar!
Becks getting her eye in.... |
It
was extremely quiet today but with pool tables, dart boards, a duke box and a
live music stage out the back we could tell that this would be a good place to
spend more time. We stayed for a few
games of pool and introduced Becks to some different dart games that she may
need to know the rules to in the next day or two!
Becks and I had drunk quite an amount by the time we left
and we felt it only fair that we returned to the caravan so that Simon could
also have a few bevvies with us.
