After our 11am check out we had a 2.5-hour drive pretty much
back the way we had come on Tuesday, but stopping at Chutes Provincial Park.
Before we reached our destination, we found an amazing
farmers’ market with a massive selection of fresh produce. We bought tons, or to be more specific, the Newmans
bought tons! We are now fully stocked
with fresh fruit and vegetables, which I welcomed for a change... Simon doesn't do fruit or veg!
When we arrived at Chutes the wardens told us that a moose
had been seen in the day use area this morning.
We headed there to eat lunch but there was no trace of it for us. We walked
down to a swimming area which gave us our first waterfall view that day,
as well as an opportunity to do our good deed of the day by rescuing some
tadpoles from a tiny puddle.
A caterpillar 'nest' or is it a crèche?! I'm not sure... but the caterpillars in this park are doing extremely well! |
A sample of the huge number of caterpillars - good luck to this albino one....! |
With no moose appearing, we drove to the site we had booked... to
find someone else in it! Fortunately, it turned out to be lucky as the problem
with the electric hook-ups being too far away reared it head again. Instead, we chose another site nearby to set
up in before getting changed and coating ourselves in bug spray for our next
hike called ‘twin bridges’. The hike
took in a series of rapids, falls and waterways, the most notable wildlife
being thousands of these caterpillars that coated everything!
Standing where two rivers meet - one of the bridges we crossed is to the right |
There was
some clambering over rocks involved but it was not too strenuous and we
completed the hike in the predicted two hours.
After making a speedy pesto pasta dinner in front of a fire,
we reminded Ann and Ray of the rules to the card game trumps. I managed to lose spectacularly – isn’t it
annoying when you suggest playing something different and end up being the
loser?!
(P.S What a way for Si and I to spend our 10-year
anniversary together!)
