Sunday 12th November – The Pink Lake (Hutt Lagoon)

After a bit of sunlight in the morning, today turned into an overcast and blustery day with the odd shower.  It seemed like a good idea to cover some miles in the circumstances.  After a couple of hours we stopped briefly in Geraldton to top up the tanks and have lunch.  Then I took over at the helm and swung a left off coast road 1 towards Kalbarri.  This is our next National Park target, but today we are stopping short so that we can start exploring it afresh in the morning.

Instead, as we reached Port Gregory there was suddenly a pink hue in the sky above a very pink lake.

I remember someone mentioning the pink lake, but I can’t explain how or why it looks like this.  I also can’t explain why someone has set up a chair and fishing rod in front of a TV on the banks!

Our aim had been to do a freebie tonight having had a night of power and both fresh after a morning shower.  However, we couldn’t find any freebies on our route.  We opted to head to the Lynton site where there is a farm you can camp on.  It is also a site of historical significance apparently being the last remaining convict hire centre in existence in WA.  We had a brief look around the buildings before checking into the campsite for the night.
No savings to be made, it was $35 again for a site with power or $30 without.  Powered site it was then!  Especially as we had rolled up so early, it wasn’t even 4pm but we had both had enough for the day and the weather wasn’t enticing us to go for a walk.  In fact, we decided it was the perfect Sunday afternoon to watch the third Lord of the Rings Film, Return of the King.  Simon felt that he should watch the trilogy having never seen it and to prepare himself for the epic New Zealand scenery.  I think it’s fair to say that it’s been quite an effort for him to persevere and I also felt like I won’t be getting that 3 hours and 20 minutes of my life back again having watched this for the second time!  We are struggling for entertainment in the evenings compared to the US. It gets dark by 7pm here and we’ve been warned about the dangers of kangaroo RTCs after dark so we’re always parked up for the night by then.  After a bite to eat it’s usually only 730pm. We’ve no TV at all and are yet to find a site that offers internet to allow for streaming anything.  The data package we bought for my phone less than two weeks ago is almost exhausted already, so we may have to invest some more moolah. I have this, i.e: my blog, which keeps me busy in the evenings writing exciting text and editing photographs for you folks.  I am also happy to do puzzles or read.  Then there’s card games or scrabble if we’re feeling up to the challenge.  I think Simon misses his guitar and unlimited internet.  It’s usually a good idea to just get an early night so that we’re up early to get going the next day.
