Saturday 20th May – Rock on the Range day 2

They had warned that the storms of yesterday were not ‘it’ for the weekend. In fact, the weatherman had warned that Columbus would experience the worst of the thunderstorms on Sunday. So, we weren’t surprised when the rain and thunder appeared overhead this morning and we were notified that there had been another mini-evacuation at the stadium.

Today’s line-up was our least favourite of the weekend.  This, along with the weather did not give us much motivation to get going!  We made the decision that if we were only going for a few hours today we would take the RV and park for $25, saving taxi fare and beer money for the designated driver (me, obviously!).

We didn’t head out until 5ish, by which time the sun was out and accessing the parking area at the stadium was a breeze.  Kristi had kindly offered to save us two seats in the same location as yesterday but, getting there so late, we weren’t expecting to find them still free.  It was a lot busier than yesterday, when clearly a lot of people never bothered coming back after the lengthy storms.  We found Kristi again and, as promised, there were our seats.  Proof, if it were needed, that rock fans really are the best music fans in the world!

We were in perfect time to catch Papa Roach followed by The Offspring, who were both on fine form:

It got dark and very busy whilst the Offspring were on
The headliners, Korn, are not our bag.  We took the opportunity to have a wander around the stalls and grab a hotdog before making an early exit to avoid the rush.  An easy drive back to the RV site and we were back by 11pm.
A much longer and rock-filled day tomorrow, weather permitting! Talking of which, as we approached Alton we could see an electric storm on the horizon and it didn’t disappoint.  We were very grateful to be tucked up in the dry and warmth when the torrential rain and sheet lightning filled the sky.  I love a good thunderstorm but even I was feeling a little nervous at the volume outside.
