Wednesday 3rd May – Riding Mountain National Park

Well, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky when I woke up.
I went for a recce to search for a good boat launch spot.... and to continue the search for moose....

By the time we’d got ourselves together, sorted the boat out and launched there were a few more clouds around.  But no one expected hail?!  It felt great to get Steven Sea-Eagle out again though, even if it wasn’t the most exciting kayak experience we’ve had.

There's those hail clouds incoming from the right...

Bufflehead (no, this image is not mine!)
All we saw were ducks, something resembling an otter diving and then disappearing completely and a pair of bald eagles.  The mooses (meeces?) are continuing to be elusive despite the regular warning signs coming into the park.  We explored the edge of virtually the whole of Moon lake but made as hasty retreat as our tiring arms would allow when the rain and then hail swept in! Maybe summer is not here yet?
Merganser (nor this one! But we did see both of these birds... from a distance)

But it is a lovely remote location to see out another week with cheap accommodation (at CAD15.70 a night) until a fresh budget starts tomorrow and we need to cover more miles.
