Saturday 1st December – To Wanaka via the lakes

A day of lots of stopping off to see things commenced with a brief visit to the Shotover Jet, but only as observers (right)....

Becks searching for Gold (above) and Arrowtown's main street (below)

.....followed by a short walk in Arrowtown where the plan was to find gold in the river. Hmmm, we didn’t exactly invest hours so it will be no surprise that we failed! But the old town was nice to walk through and we had lunch before getting back on the road.

We stopped in Wanaka for a view of #thatwanakatree with snow-capped mountains in the background:

It would have been nice to spend more time there, especially as there was a large beer festival on that I had failed to notice in the planning stage!  But the aim of today was to make good progress towards Franz Joseph for our big glacier adventure booked for tomorrow.  I had forgotten how much there was to see on route so it’s a good thing we kept moving, though regularly stopping to take in mirrored lake views:

The clear coloured water of the blue pools
We found a really great new campsite for our evening stop and played some more cards - this is my winning hand for round 5!
