Wednesday 21st December – South beach, Miami

I missed my RV bed!  Instead of enjoying a break from mobile living and having a restful night’s sleep I did not get much shut eye at all.  It was so noisy last night!  There were doors banging, and a girl in the room above us was either having an argument with herself or someone on the other end of a phone.  You don’t have to put up with that in the middle of a State Park.

But never mind, breakfast is included with the room so I’m sure we’ll feel better after that…. If we were children!  The breakfast was as if for five year olds…. Paper plates, plastic cutlery and cups and a choice of cereal, bagels and cream cheese or bananas.  That’s your lot….  Luckily I love bagels and cream cheese and Simon is a fan of Frosties so we made the most of the situation instead of going to eat breakfast on the RV.  But the hotel did have good Wi-Fi coverage, so it was time for some serious hard work on the blog before going to explore Miami.

The easiest way for us to get into central Miami was via the bus.  Once in the centre we found we could buy day passes for $6 each to get wherever we wanted to go and back to the hotel later.  We asked the advice of a couple of locals who only really recommended South Beach as the place to go, so that’s where we headed.  We wandered around and people-watched on Ocean Drive and the adjoining beach.

South Beach, Miami

Proof that it was 80 degrees in December
We both wanted to make the most of an opportunity to go out so we took a seat in one off the numerous street-front restaurants who were competing for customers with happy hour food and drink offers.  After all, it’s easier to people watch when you’re sitting down relaxing isn’t it?!  Whilst we supped our over-sized bowls of sangria (right) and I got to grips with sandwich number 4, a Cuban sandwich, we gawped over super-cars driving slowly by and some interesting fashion choices!  The Cuban sandwich was a hit with me.  I gave it 9/10 for lovely flavour - pulled pork and ham enhanced with mustard mayonnaise and pickles in a nice bit of crusty French bread, mmmm.

We thought we’d go and chill out on the beach for a while to recover from our lunch, however the weather had a different idea as it started raining.  Not wanting the day to end yet there was only one option – seek shelter in a nearby bar and wait for the storm to pass!

I’m sure that the party was only just starting on South Beach but we had spent way more than we had wanted to in an afternoon and we were feeling nicely tipsy for it so we headed back to the hotel to lap up the luxury.  It was 830pm!
