I didn’t like the idea of having stayed in High Falls park
and not explored some of the trails. I
got up early to enjoy a walk and found the 2.5 mile ‘tranquillity trail’...
.... which lived up to its name as I didn’t see another soul during my walk. You can see from this picture (above) the peaceful
campsite we resided in whilst in the park. The rains of the past few days
appeared to have moved on.
Our secluded spot in the forest.... |
I returned to wake Simon up and hit the road, we had a long
day of driving ahead of us to make our next booking in South Carolina, about 5
hours in total. By the end of the day we
would be back on the East coast of the USA!
As soon as we entered South Carolina (our 23rd State) the landscape dramatically changed to marsh/swamp and the after effects of Hurricane Matthew was clearly visible – there were trees down everywhere! Lots of palm trees and water. As we drove between Savannah and our stop for the night, just South of Charleston, we crossed one wildlife refuge after another along massive expanses of water. The wildlife on the East coast was going to be incredible....

The drive was not as lengthy as feared and we even stopped
off when we saw this sign:
An amazing store full of independent home-made produce but imagine our disappointment when all of their cider turned out to be non-alcoholic! Shame….
